Hawaii State Junior Golf Association (HSJGA), the top youth golf tournament organizer, and First Tee Hawaii, a nonprofit that makes golf affordable and accessible for all kids, has appointed Tammy Walz Chief Executive Officer. In her new role, Walz will oversee the organization’s initiatives to grow the game of golf for the benefit of keiki statewide.

“We have a compelling vision to make golf more accessible for youth while maintaining the fun, competitive atmosphere that allows us to inspire confidence and better prepare keiki for the future,” said Mary Bea Porter-King, president of the board of directors, HSJGA and First Tee Hawaii. “With her tremendous experience in the nonprofit industry and youth development space, I am confident Tammy will continue to grow our organization and the game of golf in Hawaii.”

A community-driven professional with a passion for youth development, Walz has an extensive background working with nonprofits, fund development and cultivating strong relationships. Before joining Hawaii State Junior Golf Association and First Tee Hawaii, Walz held executive leadership roles in leading youth development organizations, including Boys and Girls Club and YMCA. Most recently, Walz was Director of Advancement at Community HousingWorks, a nonprofit that provides and builds life-changing affordable apartment communities in San Diego.

“HSJGA and First Tee Hawaii continue to lead youth statewide to better opportunities and brighter futures through the game of golf,” said Tammy Walz, CEO, HSJGA and First Tee Hawaii. “It is an honor to be selected to lead an organization that impacts Hawaii’s keiki in such meaningful ways.”

In January 2021, HSJGA and First Tee Hawaii established a partnership to grow the game of golf in Hawaii and deepen its impact on local youth. HSJGA, primarily known for its competitive programming and pathway to college for Hawaii’s junior golfers, will now offer developmental opportunities through First Tee Hawaii. Under the leadership of HSJGA, First Tee Hawaii will continue to introduce keiki to the game of golf while seamlessly integrating life skills curriculum to create learning experiences that build inner strength, self-confidence and resilience.

Born in Phoenix and raised in Hawaii, Walz is a graduate of Frostburg State University in Maryland. Walz has two adult children and enjoys biking, outdoor adventures and golf.
